Tina had to bite over her lip to hold back the tiny laugh after witnessing Kurt’s signature dance move. She turned to notice the neglect and sorrow in her dear friend’s voice, putting a hand on his back and moving it in a soothing motion during his solo. She watched her bestfriend, Sam, react to his on and off boyfriend sing to him and smiled pleasantly. It would mean a lot to him to be sung to especially by the man that he has such strong emotions for. She would know, after all those long, late night talks about lost love.
After Kurt sung him heart out to his beloved, Tina braced herself for the next few lines that she claimed for herself. She took a deep breath, unhitching her arm from her partner and walking towards the seat of her past lover. They had decided to change a couple of the lyrics beforehand to make the song flow more then ignore the feeling in a few lines. They needed the perfect chemistry in the melody the whole time. Her stomach was about to explode with butterflies.
“Oh, man, when you were mine, I knew you used to care by the way we closed. You were so fine. Maybe that’s the reason you hurt me so.” She bent down and got on her knees to take Mike’s hand in her’ s. Taking a bold move, she sung directly into his eyes, they watering up while her octave rose. She try to share the rejection and pain with him emotionally through the words she sung to him but found it slightly impossible. She glanced back at Kurt before starting her next line, looking for a confidence booster. She turned back towards him in a quick motion but held his hand with a tight grip.
“I know you’re going with another girl…” her voice trailed when she turned her head to look at the rest of the ladies in New Directions. She knew that none would ever betray her like that but there was always the possibility especially with the rumors from the gossip blog.
“But I don’t care because I love you baby and that’s no lie,” she grinned with old memories in the pupils of her eyes then stands, taking her place next to her friend. When the note was held, she knew that Kurt & her had it in the bag. Maybe they wouldn’t win the special prize but perhaps, by showcasing their talent, they could be awarded with more solos in future performances at Sectionals, Regionals, and maybe even Nationals. As much as the two loved Rachel Berry, maybe it was time to share the spotlight.
Kurt continued to dance as he watched Tina run forward and pour her soul right at Mike. He softly bit his lip as he watched just how bold Tina was about her emotions and expressing them. Kurt fumbled with his hands and sent a quick and weary glance in Sam’s direction before turning back to Tina. She was nailing every note and had clearly practiced. He rolled his shoulders before doing a quick twirl and strutting up to the audience as Tina had done before. Sam was sitting on a higher level of seats but even if he wasn’t Kurt still didn’t think he would sing to him the way Tina had just done to Mike.
”I love you more than I did when you were mine” Kurt sang out, shimmying his shoulders and bending his knees in time. He let his eyes scan across the kids in the seats. He zeroed in on Sam and decided to let his emotions dip just a bit into it. He moved his hips in motion but kept his eyes glued onto the seat with Sam sitting in it. Glasz eyes were focused on teal ones as Kurt continued to rock his hips in time to the beats.
“When you were mine, you were kinda sorta my best friend…” He held his hands against his heart before moving his hands and legs in time with the planned choreography. He walked backwards as he continued to sing until he was next to Tina once more and gave her a brief nod.
”I let you fool around, I never cared, I never was the kind to make a fuss” Kurt sang out, shaking his head from side to side. He kicked his legs in time with the song before spinning around in unison with Tina before joining her in on the next line of lyrics. Their voices blended together into a perfect harmony as they both went into their higher registers.
This song was showcasing both of their talents amazingly. Tina and Kurt were both amazing performers and excellent singers and they were putting their all into the song, trying the best to show it off to the rest of the glee club.
