Le Début

Kurt Hummel. 17
I'm attending William McKinley High School and am a part of the illustrious yet horribly underappreciated New Directions glee club. I'm a countertenor with an amazing vocal range, I have a flawless taste in fashion, sharp wit, and am just about practically perfect in every way. Oh I'm also very modest. Remember my face because eventually it will be up in lights.

When You Were Mine - @Tina

tinacohen-ch4ng:

Tina had to bite over her lip to hold back the tiny laugh after witnessing Kurt’s signature dance move. She turned to notice the neglect and sorrow in her dear friend’s voice, putting a hand on his back and moving it in a soothing motion during his solo. She watched her bestfriend, Sam, react to his on and off boyfriend sing to him and smiled pleasantly. It would mean a lot to him to be sung to especially by the man that he has such strong emotions for. She would know, after all those long, late night talks about lost love.

After Kurt sung him heart out to his beloved, Tina braced herself for the next few lines that she claimed for herself. She took a deep breath, unhitching her arm from her partner and walking towards the seat of her past lover. They had decided to change a couple of the lyrics beforehand to make the song flow more then ignore the feeling in a few lines. They needed the perfect chemistry in the melody the whole time. Her stomach was about to explode with butterflies.

Oh, man, when you were mine, I knew you used to care by the way we closed. You were so fine. Maybe that’s the reason you hurt me so.” She bent down and got on her knees to take Mike’s hand in her’ s. Taking a bold move, she sung directly into his eyes, they watering up while her octave rose. She try to share the rejection and pain with him emotionally through the words she sung to him but found it slightly impossible. She glanced back at Kurt before starting her next line, looking for a confidence booster. She turned back towards him in a quick motion but held his hand with a tight grip.

“I know you’re going with another girl…” her voice trailed when she turned her head to look at the rest of the ladies in New Directions. She knew that none would ever betray her like that but there was always the possibility especially with the rumors from the gossip blog.

“But I don’t care because I love you baby and that’s no lie,” she grinned with old memories in the pupils of her eyes then stands, taking her place next to her friend. When the note was held, she knew that Kurt & her had it in the bag. Maybe they wouldn’t win the special prize but perhaps, by showcasing their talent, they could be awarded with more solos in future performances at Sectionals, Regionals, and maybe even Nationals. As much as the two loved Rachel Berry, maybe it was time to share the spotlight.

Kurt continued to dance as he watched Tina run forward and pour her soul right at Mike. He softly bit his lip as he watched just how bold Tina was about her emotions and expressing them. Kurt fumbled with his hands and sent a quick and weary glance in Sam’s direction before turning back to Tina. She was nailing every note and had clearly practiced. He rolled his shoulders before doing a quick twirl and strutting up to the audience as Tina had done before. Sam was sitting on a higher level of seats but even if he wasn’t Kurt still didn’t think he would sing to him the way Tina had just done to Mike.

I love you more than I did when you were mine” Kurt sang out, shimmying his shoulders and bending his knees in time. He let his eyes scan across the kids in the seats. He zeroed in on Sam and decided to let his emotions dip just a bit into it. He moved his hips in motion but kept his eyes glued onto the seat with Sam sitting in it. Glasz eyes were focused on teal ones as Kurt continued to rock his hips in time to the beats.

“When you were mine, you were kinda sorta my best friend…” He held his hands against his heart before moving his hands and legs in time with the planned choreography. He walked backwards as he continued to sing until he was next to Tina once more and gave her a brief nod.

I let you fool around, I never cared, I never was the kind to make a fuss Kurt sang out, shaking his head from side to side. He kicked his legs in time with the song before spinning around in unison with Tina before joining her in on the next line of lyrics. Their voices blended together into a perfect harmony as they both went into their higher registers.

This song was showcasing both of their talents amazingly. Tina and Kurt were both amazing performers and excellent singers and they were putting their all into the song, trying the best to show it off to the rest of the glee club.

When You Were Mine - @Tina

tinacohen-ch4ng:

It was almost showtime and the butterflies were pounding against the cage of her stomach. This was Tina’s first performance in over a year even if it was only to the New Directions, she had to mentally prepare herself. She got into the meaning of the song and shot a glance towards Mike Chang, a boyfriend that she lost long ago. She stood up and made her way to the piano, her shoes sparkling in the sunlight that trickled in through the window.

When Kurt entered the room, her anxiety practically doubled and she all of sudden forgot her entrance into the song. After the introduction done by her mate, she broke off her eye contact with the rest of the club and focused singly on her instrument. Her fingers twitched over the ivory piano keys and they took off in the beginning melody surprisingly. The lyrics rushed from her mouth with tears stinging at the corners of her eyes.

When you were mine… I gave you all my money,” her voice hitting the note perfectly but she furrowed her brows knowing that her competition would’ve done better. The duo had to decided to slow the pace of the song a little to bring more meaning into the message but to speed up at the chorus. She joined Kurt in on the next line that strangely hit home. Tina’s eyes looked up from the piano at the next part of the song and she met direct eye contact with her ex-beau that had been the inspiration to such a tribute. A tear trickled down her cheek while the voices harmonized, ”Time after time, you done me wrong.”

Kurt took over the next couple of lines that appealed to him when they had spilt the song in two. She knew instantly that this harmony fit them perfectly with their soprano ranges. The 80’s classic seemed to be a hit to the audience of New Directions and the confidence built up in Tina’s gut. The piano pieces became more distinct and bold with every second, complimenting their voices. She flashed a smile towards her other part of the duo.

Kurt swayed softly back and forth with a bit of a shimmy as the song started out slow. He could tell that Tina was putting her all into the song and it brought a bit of a smile to his face. Turning over to the students he let his eyes flick across the choir room before they fell on one person he could never really seem to forget despite how repeatedly he told himself it would be best to do so.

Samuel Evans of course, they were the kings of an off again on again relationship and really he had no idea why. He was a romantic at heart and despite himself he wanted to just show up at Sam’s bedroom window with a boom box over his head. Kurt shook his head before he gave Tina’s shoulder a soft squeeze and inhaled deeply.

Cause just like a train, you let all my friends come over and eat” Kurt sang out, going into his higher register. He ripped his glasz eyes away from Sam and let them fall onto Rachel. He gave her a sly wink and clasped his hands behind his back and he danced from side to side. He was holding back, he could easily let his emotions lace over his singing and put his all into it but he wasn’t about to appear vulnerable in front of the entire club.

And you were so strange!” Kurt sang out, pointing directly at the blond football player in the seats before tapping his foot and letting his finger scan across the rest of the New Directions kids.

You didn’t have the decency to change the sheets” The brunet sung out a hand against his chest as he let just the tiniest bit of emotion show through. He winced his eyes shut before linking his arms with Tina. They were going to start harmonizing now and it would sound amazing. Kurt couldn’t help but turn everything into a competition and he was going to make sure that no emotions were going stop him from showcasing his and Tina’s neglected talent.

When You Were Mine - @Tina

Kurt inhaled deeply as he stared at his reflection in the boy’s bathroom. His duet was in less than ten minutes and he was jitters and nervousness. Despite the confident facade that he put up prior to shows and the confidence that actually did surge through him when he did perform he always had pre-show jitters. Rolling his shoulders a bit he stared at his reflection and shot himself a dazzling smile.

“Okay, you can do this Kurt. Tina and you are going to be absolutely fabulous.” With a slight nod of his head he quickly turned on his heel and tugged onto the end of his denim half jacket just a bit. He was decked out in a classic tribute to Cyndi Lauper. Sinfully tight black jeans graced his legs along with glittery sneakers on his feet. His frayed white shirt was layered with a dark black denim half jacket and he had a black bandana wrapped around his head and his arms were adorned with various chains and bracelets.

He skipped into the choir room and gave a slight wave to everyone in the seats. Clasping his hands behind his back he saw Tina already standing by the piano waiting for him. Clearing his throat he shot everyone a courteous smile and walked up next to his partner. “Now that the time has come for the best performance of them all, I would like to introduce the fabulous duo of one Kurt Hummel and an equally as fabulous Tina Cohen-Chang!” He took a step to the side and with a sweep of his arm presented Tina.

“We’re going to be honoring a classic pop diva and 80’s icon with the memorable and quite relatable song “When You Were Mine” Kurt side eyed Tina and gave her a quick nod and a comforting smile. “While not normally sang as a duet I think our composition will give it an interesting spin and show case both of our voices amazingly!” He cleared his throat just as the instruments began being played but he band that always seem to reside within the choir room.

He shimmied his shoulders and turned to smile at Tina, she was going to opening them into the song and he was sure she’d knock it out of the park. She was definitely an amazing singer, she just wasn’t show cased enough. Kurt was always fighting for solos and he still didn’t get to sing most of the time. Tina kept her mouth closed and it remained that way, he wished that Mr. Schue would wake up and smell the roses that there were more people in the club that just Finn and Rachel at times.

Better Said in Person - @Santana

devil-in-a-reddress:

Santana could only sigh and wring her hands together, nodding at his words. “I know,” she said before she looked at him. “And believe it or not, but I actually like Glee club. It’s a lot better than being ordered by Sylvester and Q,” Santana admitted, looking down at the mulch underneath her. It was true, though. In Glee club you didn’t have to worry about following orders, unless you were scared of Berry’s beak, but even then, no one was.

Running her hand through her hair, Santana shook her head. “We can’t all have parents that are like yours, Kurt, or even like Sam’s. My parents? They’d fucking disown me in a heartbeat. You should’ve seen what they did to my Aunt Callie when she came out…” Santana could feel the bile rise in her throat, remembering how her grandfather had gotten a priest to go up to Washington to try and pray away her gay. Last she heard she was married, but Santana wasn’t sure. They hardly talked about her.

“Well I’m glad you do, Santana. Glee club likes you too.” He smiled warmly at her as he continued to swing back and forth. When he heard her talk about her parents he winced and slowed his swinging down to a stop. Not everyone was as accepting as his father and Santana’s story made it all the more apparent. He didn’t know what he would have done if his father had reacted negatively. Even if he had Kurt didn’t think he would go back into the closet or anything of the sort. He was far too proud of himself and every aspect of himself.

“You’re a confident girl, Santana. You just have to learn to accept every part of yourself and treat it how you treat every other bit of you.” Kurt laughed a bit before continuing “You’re what Mercedes would describe as an “HBIC” or Head Bitch in Charge as she so affectionately puts it.” He began swinging lightly back and forth “And HBIC’s don’t let anything get them down.” Kurt gave Santana a tiny wink before continuing to swing.

devil-in-a-reddress:

Santana chuckled a humorless laugh at his question about confirming her suspicions and she laughed again. “You remember that phone conference, Kurt. I’m surprised you haven’t figured it out,” she said, pursing her lips at the memory of Brittany’s slip up of “If it were, Santana and I would be dating” but she could only shake her head because, of course, it was totally a Brittany thing and no one thought anything of it.

“I know that part, Kurt. I’ve seen it happen to you and Sam,” she said, looking at the brunette male before she took a deep breath, running a hand through her hair before she pursed her lips and looked at the ground. Not only was the entire school going to look at her like the dyke cheerleader, if she even was…and she knew that her parents would not be as cool as Kurt’s and Sam’s parents. They’d probably kick her to the once they found out about her. If she was. She wasn’t sure if she was or not.

“Ah” Kurt stated, knowing that it obviously had something to do with Brittany although he wasn’t sure if they had reached that point in their… relationship or whatever they would call it. The line between friends and lovers was definitely blurry between those two and he was never really able to wrap his head around it. Kurt continued to gently swing back and forth, shooting concerned glances in Santana’s direction every few swings. “Well once you do decide, do you think you know how everyone would react to the news? I can almost guarantee you that the glee club would still accept you with open arms, Santana. You’re part of the family,” giving a small chuckle he added in “whether you want to be or not.”

“What about your parents?” He asked, barely above a whisper. His father had been nothing but kind and accepting about it, it couldn’t have gone better than the way it had. He was more than lucky to have someone like his dad for him. His dad truly loved him and he was grateful for it every single day of his life. He didn’t know what he would do without him. Glancing over to Santana he wondered if her parents would be as accepting as his was. There were always horror stories he had read about these kind of things in the news or on the internet.

Santana could only nod and she took a deep breath. “I don’t know. I don’t even know if I am, you know…” She still couldn’t say the words. Sure, she thought that she was gay or whatever, but that didn’t mean she was ready to say it out loud. Everything would change once she did and she was not ready for that.

She could tell Kurt was really trying to help though, and she offered him a small smile. “I know but…how can I be honest with myself when I don’t even know what I’m feeling?” It was true. She didn’t know what it felt like to be in love. She didn’t know what it was like to want to actually be with someone for more than sex. For more than just a way to get off. “Everything’s just so confusing.”

“Well despite what people like to believe, human sexuality isn’t all so black and white. We can’t just put neat little labels onto people and send them on their merry way.” Kurt told the girl next to him and started swinging once more. “There’s a lot of things that get confusing, and I really do wish I was much more help than I am being. Have you ever done anything to confirm your attractions, Santana?” Kurt asked as he swung back and forth lightly. Despite what lots of people believed it wasn’t really necessary to experiment before you decided what you labeled yourself as but lots of people found it really helpful.

“It can be a bit confusing but you shouldn’t force anything onto yourself. Once and if you do get everything sorted out the only thing you should worry about is accepting yourself. There will be so many people  that you thought were your friends that will turn on you, but just remember that if they do then I doubt they were really your friends in the first place.” Kurt told her, continuing to swing back and forth. He knew that Santana was really popular and she had more friends than she could count, but they were probably not true friends and he couldn’t bare to think what they would do if Santana were ever to come out to them.
